British Gen Z and Millennials are picking weights over cardio.

British Gen Z and Millennials are picking weights over cardio. Running is still the most popular form of exercise for young people, but the number of 16-24-year-olds doing cardio at least twice monthly is on the decline, while strength training is up over the last nine years. This shift toward strength training is reflected in their choice to spend on the gym—where they’ll find all the equipment they need—and in their spending fewer minutes working out than older gens, but more vigorously.(Though social running groups aren’t going anywhere—there are more than 1K every weekend in the U.K.!) There’s a wealth of reasons for this trend; social media content makes strength training feel more approachable, classes make it more social, and many young people are thinking forward about what their body will need when they’re older.
