Teen Vogue is partnering with Wattpad to publish romance stories. Romance is the highest-grossing genre in fiction today, and we know it’s driven by the young women on BookTok—and that it’s defining their favorite TV shows, too. So, bringing in romance writers who had their first hits on Wattpad (like Anna Todd, author of the Harry Styles fanfic-to-movie After) is priming this collab for attention. The short story series I Saw the Signs includes three to begin, with the first launching this month and rolling out in daily chapter updates. (This is really sounding like fanfic.) These young-adult romances, spanning football, coworker, and horseback-riding storylines, are connected by themes of “astrology, fate, and destiny,” from a love of stargazing to a character named Aries. It hits on just about every trope romance lovers make viral right now except high fantasy—though there’s no telling what could come next! (Teen Vogue)
