TikTok Shop’s newest obsession is live diamond auctions. Livestreamed lab-grown diamond sales have exploded on the app in recent weeks, with auctioneers flashing loose stones under bright lights and running 10-15-second countdown bids—often starting as low as $1—while hyping the crowd over club-remix soundtracks. Because the diamonds are lab-grown, they run far cheaper than mined stones (roughly $100-$200 a carat), which sellers and buyers alike frame as “democratizing” a market once reserved for wealthy shoppers. One repeat buyer told reporters she’s purchased more than 30 diamonds since June, including one later appraised well above what she paid. And even if young consumers aren’t all buying in right now, many more are certainly watching.
