Sports betting is starting to compete with traditional investing for Gen Z’s attention. A new survey from personal finance platform Betterment finds 26% of Gen Z consider sports betting a deliberate, ongoing part of their financial strategy, compared to 14% of Millennials, 6% of Gen X, and just 1% of Baby Boomers. More than half of young investors also said they had redirected money they originally planned to invest into sports betting, with 14% doing so multiple times a month. The trend lines up with what YPulse has been watching for years as sports betting and prediction markets’ young user base rapidly expands. Plus, as many young people feel financially behind, some are turning to more speculative opportunities like sports betting, prediction markets, and crypto in hopes of reaching their financial goals faster.
