Gen Z’s latest style muse is Italian nonnas. Young shoppers are turning to resale platforms to recreate looks inspired by a grandmother’s closet. Think: flowy fabrics, apron dresses, and colorful floral prints. TikTok has been flooded with the “grandma aesthetic,” as searches for the trend “have increased 150%.” Fashion brands have caught on, too: Jacquemus’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection featured retro bandanas, while Chloé released floral prints that can easily double as a nonna’s curtains. It’s a shift away from the ‘90s minimalism revival Gen Z embraced just months ago (thanks, Carolyn Bessette!), but that may be exactly the appeal. And the grandma aesthetic feels deliberately unconventional; mixing prints and accessories that aren’t necessarily “supposed” to be together pushes back against formulaic, algorithm-approved aesthetics.
