The MTA is getting whimsical with a new subway installation. It seems they’re taking a page directly from Gen Z’s book by turning a defunct retail space into an experiential kiosk to add some joy in riders’ day, though those days will only be the weekends. Inside, they’ll find free print zines (how analog!), keychains, and even a photo booth, which are all things we know Gen Z loves to share on socials, especially if it’s exclusive. This is just one in a line of retail space transformations the MTA is commissioning, and it seems to be working. One Gen Z visitor said the kiosk “is just a moment to pause and reflect and talk to people around you”—which is precisely what YPulse has said accessible adventures are all about for young people. Letting artists add something fun and quirky to stations that end up monotonous for riders fits right into the kind of whimsy Gen Z is seeking out day-to-day. (Gothamist)
