Fast food chains are adding customizable drinks for Gen Z. According to Tastewise, Gen Zβs interest in customization-centered drinks rose 42% year over year. For fast food chains, that means adding more mixable fruit-forward options, cream-topped fountain drinks, and drinks with popping boba and fruit jelly to their lineup. While staple chains like Sonic, Swig, and Starbucks have always offered unique, customizable beverages, other chains like McDonaldβs and Taco Bell have embraced the trend and expanded past traditional fountain drinks to keep up. Some have ventured into standalone beverage concepts, too. For example, last fall and winter, Chick-fil-A and KFC opened standalone beverage locations, Daybright in Georgia and Saucy in Orlando, respectively. (Food & Wine)
