Gen Z and Millennial collectors have Vintage IKEA on their wish list.

Jul 09 2026

Gen Z and Millennial collectors have Vintage IKEA on their wish list. While IKEA is typically associated with affordable, simple home decor and furniture, some young interior design fanatics are obsessed with hunting for older pieces that are bold, eccentric, and expensive when resold. One such collector is 28-year-old interior stylist Alex Greene, who has filled her apartment with decades-old pieces from the brand including a 1980s bookshelf that she purchased for $500 in 2022, which now sells for $1K on eBay. Gina Fuchs, a 30-year-old marketing director, found a rare IKEA chair from the ‘90s and bought it for $350 at a backyard vintage pop-up—now the chair goes for $2.9K on Chairish, a site specifically for vintage furniture and art. These young collectors are not looking to sell their beloved IKEA collectible pieces though. Even as the pieces increase in value, the flex of having them in their homes is worth more than selling them off. (WSJ)
