Half of British Gen Z have no plans to learn how to drive.

Jul 01 2026

Half of British Gen Z have no plans to learn how to drive. A new survey by Hive shows that 50% of 14-29-year-old Brits believe they can live happily without having to own a car. On top of that, 68% of Gen Z said owning a car is not an important life goal for them, while 71% don’t view it as a rite of passage anymore. Instead of spending money on soaring gas prices or driving lessons, 79% would rather spend their money going to brunch, taking a holiday, and even dating. London is the top city where young people feel they can go without a car, followed by Liverpool and Plymouth. (Motoring Research)
