Nearly half of Gen Z adults would choose to live in the past if they could. A new poll by NBC News and SurveyMonkey found that one third of 18-29-year-olds would choose to go to a time period within the last 50 years, while 14% even said they would choose more than 50 years ago. But more so than wanting to live in old norms, young adults’ desire to go back in time says a lot about how they view the future. 62% expect life to be worse for them than it was for other generations—compared to 25% who said it will be better and 13% who said it will be about the same. Because of economic anxiety, fears about the future, and wanting to doomscroll less, it seems like Gen Z feels stuck where they’re at. As a result, young adults are fueling a trend of cultural nostalgia to recreate what they think the ‘90s and aughts were like—though we know they’re not giving up social media. (NBC)
