British Gen Z workers want time to “touch grass.” A new study of 18-29-year-old office workers shows long hours indoors, constant screen time, and uninspiring office environments are taking a toll. The vast majority (88%) say being inside all day negatively impacts their mental health and 30% go as far as saying they feel “trapped” behind walls and screens. It’s no surprise, then, that a poll commissioned by plant-based food company Ecotone found younger gens are eager to swap their desks for the outdoors. Nearly half (48%) would like a U.K.-wide monthly paid “Green Day” to reconnect with nature. When asked about their ideal work environment, 91% of Gen Z and Millennials said they’d prefer to work outside at least some of the time and 49% would be more likely to stay in a job if given time off to spend in nature or volunteer for environmental causes.
