Kamala HQ rebranded with a goal of engaging Gen Z—but it’s not going so well. Last week, the X account from Harris’ presidential campaign was rebooted with the username @headquarter_67 (yes, like the term “6-7”). It was introduced as “the new Gen Z-led progressive content hub,” rolling out with deeply unserious posts criticizing Trump and a Substack account to match. But Gen Z was not enticed by this strategy; many found the username alone “insulting,” reducing their gen’s identity to tween slang jokes. The negative response was so strong and swift that within a day, the X account name had changed to @headquarter68_, with their bio reading, “Elon wouldn’t give us @headquarters.” The new project seems not to have learned from Hillary Clinton’s “Pokemon GO to the polls” attempt to engage then Millennial voters and is paying the price.
