Generational tension at work is reportedly becoming cause for retirement. A new Clari + Salesloft survey found that 19% of Baby Boomers plan to retire early specifically to avoid working with Gen Z. The driver is partially that 64% of Boomers think Gen Z prioritizes work-life balance over business needs, which has earned the young gen a “lazy” label. (Which we know is not quite so simple.) Meanwhile, 28% of Gen Z are seeking roles with minimal Boomer interaction. AI is deepening the divide, too, as 39% of Gen Z sellers say they’d rather be managed by AI than a Boomer, and many are using AI to hit quotas their more experienced colleagues can’t. And thanks to the mutual avoidance causing miscommunication, lost deals, and duplicated work, it’s costing organizations an estimated $56B in lost productivity annually. (Newsweek)
