TikTok alternatives are having another moment. Following TikTok’s U.S. ownership news over the weekend, users reported posts not showing up in their feeds as expected. TikTok blamed it on a data center power outage—but timing has users skeptical. Now, a wave of other short-form video apps are seeing their user base boost. UpScrolled, which markets itself as “an alternative to the platforms that stopped listening to you” and launched last June, now sits at No. 9 on Apple’s App Store for free apps—one spot above TikTok. The startup platform Skylight reported their sign-ups increased over 150% over the weekend too, bringing in some 20K new users. At the same time, data shows TikTok uninstalls surging. Like the viral moment RedNote had last January, there’s no certainty any of this change will stick long term, but it is drawing attention to conditional platform loyalty. (TechCrunch, CNBC, Forbes)
