Gen Z wants advice from real people and Reddit is reaping the benefits. The U.K. Office of Communications reported that the platform saw an 88% increase in reach over the past two years, with more than 75% of 18-24-year-olds now visiting. Part of that growth is technical, as Google’s algorithm now prioritizes forum content in search results. But Reddit’s COO credits the surge to younger users’ desire for “human-generated reviews and opinions” over AI-generated content, calling the platform “messy” but authentic. The demographic is shifting, too: 33% of U.K. Reddit users are now Gen Z women, with subreddits on skincare, parenting, and women’s football doubling in size. YPulse has also tracked young Europeans seeking less performative digital spaces—Instagram use among young adults has dropped -10pts since 2023. Young people are still deeply online, just favoring spaces that feels less curated and more authentic. (The Guardian)
