The broadcast cop drama about a middle-aged rookie has become Gen Z’s most-streamed show. ABC’s The Rookie was just named the most-streamed broadcast series among viewers under 18-years-old in the 2024-2025 season, according to Nielsen. The show also has 2.8M TikTok followers, with 18-24-year-olds being its biggest audience. Even 49-year-old star Eric Winter, once “anti-TikTok,” now has 6.6M followers posting behind-the-scenes clips. Showrunner Alexi Hawley says the show is highly “clippable,” with short scenes that translate well to 30-second videos that hook new viewers. It’s also known for swapping traditional network crossovers for collaborations with YouTube creators like Ghost Files to cater to the show’s younger audience. YPulse’s data has shown The Rookie ranking among Gen Z’s favorite currently airing series for a while now, with fans praising its mix of crime, romance, drama, and comedy. (LA Times)
