Gen Z is swapping pre-flight pints for matcha and gut health shots. Data from Manchester Airport Group, the U.K.’s largest, shows younger travelers are transforming departure lounge habits. Matcha sales rose 165% this year across Manchester, Stansted, and East Midlands airports. Meanwhile, purchases of super smoothies (i.e. boosted with probiotics or added functional benefits) jumped 650% and gut health shots climbed 102%. A “skincare in the sky” trend also drove a 399% increase in onboard face mask sales. And it’s not just changing what they’re consuming on the way—it’s altering where they’re going with this mindset, too. Fewer under-25-year-olds are booking boozy holidays; instead, flights to “destination dupes” like Albania and Romania doubled as young travelers seek picturesque, not party, spots on a budget.
