The U.K. is responding to Gen Z’s job market struggles with a $965M plan. Last week, the government announced a three-year initiative to create apprenticeships and place 50K young people into roles. The initiative will fund skills training in high-demand industries like hospitality, retail, and engineering, with new short courses in digital skills and AI rolling out in April 2026. Small and medium-sized businesses will also get full apprenticeship costs covered for workers under 25-years-old. With over 1.2M applications submitted for just 17K U.K. graduate roles in the past two years, the timing couldn’t be more urgent. Prime Minister Starmer framed the initiative as a move to put apprenticeships as another option for Gen Z success: “It’s time to put apprenticeships on an equal footing with university.” (Fortune)
