Gen Z women are powering a YA streaming boom. A 2025 UCLA study found that 10-24-year-old females are most drawn to stories about family dynamics, friendships, and “empowering stories about women.” And as far as streaming goes, Netflix and Prime Video are the ones who have been appealing to that. Young adult titles hit Netflix’s Global Top 10 in 80% of weeks this year, with Wednesday logging 16.4B total minutes viewed and Ginny & Georgia pulling 10.06B. Over on Prime Video, The Summer I Turned Pretty’s final season spent all 10 airing weeks on the charts. Creators say the key to writing for Gen Z, particularly females, is authenticity. One showrunner described her goal as characters who are “fully messy, good and bad, complicated,” which is the relatable, authentic vibe Gen Z seeks out over polished and unattainable standards.
