#RushTok turned Southern sororities into a recruitment tool.

#RushTok turned Southern sororities into a recruitment tool. Enrollment at Southeastern Conference (SEC) schools is up 91% for students from the northeast in all of 2025. Schools like University of Alabama, Ole Miss, and University of Tennessee specifically have seen out-of-state enrollment from the Northeast jump over 500% since 2002. The schools say the draw is more about a college experience built for the social feed than their programs, though. Years of #RushTok from these schools’ massive sororities gave millions of viewers a window into a social scene that’s made to look like content waiting to happen, and feels exclusive to experience IRL. As one researcher put it, Millennials joined Greek life to party, but Gen Z wants “the visual pieces, they want to be seen and tagged in pictures.” Factor in economic uncertainty (a degree no longer guaranteeing their desired job), and the most aspirational campus has become the most post-worthy.
