Jon Hamm blissing out on a dancefloor is TikTok’s latest good mood. A scene from Apple TV’s Your Friends and Neighbors has suddenly become Gen Z’s way to share positive feelings. In the original scene, Hamm’s character is actually hitting rock bottom, trying to escape his crumbling life with a night out. But that context doesn’t matter—Gen Z has reframed it as pure, unbothered euphoria. (Maybe the kind that can only come from looking away from the harsh reality.) Creators are using it for hyper-specific scenarios like “when you’re petting a dog and someone says ‘wow, he usually doesn’t like anyone,'” getting to introduce a friend to Lord of the Rings for the first time, or the unrivaled joy of hearing “hey, can I be mean for a second?” Set to Danish DJ Kato’s 2010 track “Turn The Lights Off,” it’s also another example of TikTok breathing new life into forgotten music through audio trends.
