Gen Z isn’t as sure about marriage as previous gens. A new survey from the University of Michigan and Pew Research Center found that high schoolers in the U.S. are far less likely to want to get married than previous gens. In 2023, 67% of 12th graders said they expect to get married someday, compared to 80% at the same age 30 years ago. But there’s a divide driving this: boys’ interest in marriage has stayed almost unchanged, while girls’ expectation that they’ll get married has dropped sharply—from 83% in 1993 to 61% in 2023. YPulse has said before that many young people want to reach key milestones and live with a partner before tying the knot. For Gen Z girls especially, marriage feels less like a life step they have to take and more like something to consider later, if at all. (Sherwood News)
