For previous gens, marriage was the default. A serious relationship almost always led to a walk down the aisle, not only as a symbol of love but as an expected milestone of adulthood. Settling down, getting married, and starting a family was considered “the right order” of things. But for Gen Z, the old rulebook doesn’t quite match their mindset, so they’re rewriting the story. In a dating culture where “tradwives” trend at the same time as situationships, Gen Z is creating their own relationship blueprints—ones that don’t always include the white dress or legal paperwork. And while love is still very much on the table, what lifelong commitment looks like for this young gen may look different. But does that mean they’re also scrapping marriage altogether?
