No matter how high prices climb, there are some “little treats” Gen Z will never give up. In what some experts are calling “treatonomics,” young consumers “inject moments of guilt-free joy into life,” through small pick-me-ups like makeup, candles, and even collectibles like Labubus. (Just like YPulse predicted a Joy Economy determining young people’s spending back in 2024!). YPulse data backs up this affinity for “little luxuries.” When we ask about the small splurges they won’t give up, only 5% of all 18-24-year-olds said they bought from none of the categories, which ranged from fast food to gym memberships and makeup. With experts predicting that the economic uncertainty they’re currently facing isn’t likely to dissipate for up to eight years, they expect “little treat culture” to persist for the next three to five years.
