Some European countries are trialing an age verification app for limiting minors’ access to adult content. Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, and Spain are testing a new age verification tool app as part of the EU’s push to protect minors online. The initiative reflects growing concerns over minors’ exposure to harmful content, such as pornography and violence, and a full rollout is planned for 2026. Developed under the EU’s 2022 Digital Services Act, the app allows users to prove they are over 18-years-old without disclosing personal information by using open-source technology. It works by separating where their age is checked from the websites they visit—so users prove they’re not minors through a secure app, but the website never sees their name or personal details. The software is currently being tested with adult content platforms and countries will soon have the option to integrate the software with national digital ID wallets. (Deadline)
