Knowing that AI is already a part of most students’ lives—74% of students in Western Europe have used an AI tool / chatbot for help with homework, according to YPulse—some primary and high schools in Germany are embracing the technology in their classrooms. While concerns remain about overreliance on AI and the risk of misinformation, educators argue that banning these tools isn’t realistic, citing the importance of teaching AI use reflectively in order for students to engage critically and responsibly. Schools like Thusneldastraße in Cologne are integrating classroom-specific AI like “Study Buddy” to support learning, while Bremen is rolling out a privacy-focused chatbot called “Telli” across all schools.
