Chuck E. Cheese recently opened new retro-themed spinoff arcades, for grown ups. The entertainment and restaurant chain has launched Chuck’s Arcade, 10 new locations in shopping malls across the U.S., specifically “created for adults and lifelong fans” of Chuck E. Cheese. Unlike the original restaurants, most Chuck’s Arcade spots skip the pizza and focus entirely on games like Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, Halo, and Connect Four Hoops—all retro games that “shaped generations.” These locations were revamped from existing mall-based Fun Spot Arcades owned by the company, and they’re part of a comeback strategy following the chain’s bankruptcy in 2020. It could be a winning move as YPulse data shows 97% of 13-39-year-olds are engaging in gaming activities and 45% of 13-39-year-olds report not having a third place to go to outside of home, work, or school, which a new arcade spot could provide.
