Gen Z is having a mason jar moment. While there’s a new trending water bottle every few months, young people are latching onto a new type of glass now: the Weck jar. Like Millennials using mason jars for their drinks, Gen Z are using these German-made glass, latch-lid jars to make their coffees and matcha look even better. However, there’s some drama over this trend. Some who bought them find layering the rubber gasket (made for preserving food) and latching the glass unnecessarily extra—and when it’s all done, they can’t even fit in their cupholder because of its “chubby” size. Plus, others argue it’s just another over-consumption shopping trend, getting viewers to buy international glass jars when other glass containers or their collections of water bottles will work the same.
