Some Gen Z parents allegedly don’t like reading to their kids. This idea came from an Instagram poll by former elementary school teacher Spencer Russell, who asked followers, “Why aren’t you reading aloud to your kids?” The responses he shared ranged from “It’s so boring” to “I love reading with my kids, but they request the same book over and over.” Its results showing parents lack of interest in reading to their young childen drove beliefs that those who don’t tend to be younger themselves. A recent HarperCollins U.K. survey did find fewer than half of Gen Z parents find reading to their children fun. But this certainly doesn’t reflect all young parents; in fact, YPulse’s Parenting report data shows the majority (64%) of North American Gen Z and Millennial parents say they read to their kids every day.
