Author John Green thinks young people would be happier if they read more. Known to Gen Z and Millennials for his emotional novels, movies, and educational content, Green believes reading is one of the most powerful tools to combat rising loneliness and mental health struggles in young people. Green says books will help shrink the empathy gap, letting readers step into someone else’s shoes and see the world a little differently. And as more young people look for ways to unplug—61% of 13-39-year-olds say they’ve intentionally taken breaks from their device, according to YPulse—reading could be a way to slow down and reconnect with themselves and the people around them. In fact, YPulse data shows that reading already ranks as the top hobby for 13-39-year-old females, fulfilling their need to relax and recharge. (Fortune)
