News of the male loneliness epidemic continues. Loneliness among men was declared a national epidemic by a former U.S. Surgeon General in 2023, and has been a point of conversation across social media, Reddit threads, and beyond for a while now. And according to a new Gallup poll, young men in the U.S. are among the loneliest in the Western World, with men 15-34-years-old reporting some of the highest levels of loneliness among peer nations, surpassed only by Turkey. Among this group, 25% say they felt lonely “a lot,” while only 18% of young women say so. Experts point to lack of deep male friendships and toxic-masculinity rhetoric on social media as key drivers for male loneliness, leaving them without safe spaces for emotional expression or meaningful connection.
