“Milkmaid dresses” are in for Gen Z women.

Apr 23 2025

“Milkmaid dresses” are in for Gen Z women. Whether it’s thanks to the rising popularity of homesteading influencers such as Nara Smith and Hannah Neeleman (a.k.a Ballerina Farm), or Gen Z fashion icons like Sabrina Carpenter and Kendall Jenner wearing the look, the trend is taking over. The dresses are characterized by romantic silhouettes, breezy fabrics, vintage patterns, and closely resembling 1950’s women’s fashion in America. Experts say this hyper-feminine aesthetic might reflect broader cultural shifts during a “regression period” in women’s advancement, while offering a “calming, serene aesthetic” amid cultural uncertainty. The trend has even made a surprising jump into nightlife, with some young women ditching tight club outfits for these flowing dresses. As one TikToker noted, “We have never had more attention in our lives than when we wore these flowy Mormon looking outfits to the club.” (USA Today, Refinery 29)
