Heineken released “The Flipper” phone case to encourage IRL connection.

Heineken released “The Flipper” phone case to encourage IRL connection. As a part of the brands #SocialOffSocials campaign, the AI-powered case flips a user’s phone face down when someone says “cheers,” aiming for people to “flip off” their socials and promote living in the moment IRL. Created with inventor Simone Giertz, the device uses voice recognition and a small robotic arm to physically move the phone, making it impossible to ignore what’s in front them. It’s a playful and creative response to address what they call “phlubbing,” a.k.a ignoring people in favor of one’s phone, which 47% of all adults admit to doing according to the National Library of Medicine study. Ultimately, this campaign ties into growing consumer sentiment around the need for more intentional socializing, especially with 61% of 18-39-year-olds telling YPulse they actively try to limit their social media use.
