Young gens aren’t job hopping like people think.

Apr 10 2025

Young gens aren’t job hopping like people think. Before Gen Z, Millennials were labeled the “job-hopping generation,” but data shows Boomers and Gen X actually switched jobs more often at the same age. The average job tenure hasn’t really changed much since the ‘80s either, and when it has, it’s mostly because of shifts in the economy, not out of their desire to job hop. The myth sticks partly because of social media, and because younger generations are more outspoken about wanting jobs that align with their values. Gen Z is currently facing the stereotype, even though 47% of employed 18-24-year-olds say they don’t plan to leave their jobs in the next year, according to YPulse. And although our data shows that 72% would leave for a better opportunity, that just shows they’re ambitious, not flaky. (Business Insider)
