Cozy gaming is truly benefitting young players’ mental health.

Cozy gaming is truly benefitting young players’ mental health. These low-stakes games—like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley—aren’t about winning, but all about soft visuals, soothing sounds, and simple, feel-good tasks. YPulse even reported on its transformation from niche hobby into a full-blown subculture in 2023, and now Mashable calls it “the future of gaming.” And it’s one driven by young women: 75% of 13-39-year-old women like cozy games, with young men not far behind at 69%, according to YPulse, but creators amplifying this culture are mostly young women. Beyond being trendy, these games are bringing real mental health benefits as they go mainstream: research proves that they can reduce stress, lower heart rates, and even create meditative flow states for those who play. It shows on platforms like TikTok, where #CozyGames not only features the games themselves, but also physical coziness within creators’ dreamy setups and ambient lighting. For a generation facing increased anxiety, these digital escapes are proving to be legitimate wellness tools disguised as pixelated farms and cute coffee shops. (Mashable)
