Teens are watching “comfort content” as a form of escapism. New research reveals that teens are turning to comforting entertainment—think movies from their younger years like Moana and nostalgic shows like Friends—to escape the pressures of a world they feel is in a constant state of crisis, or “permacrisis.” It found 58% of 6-17-year-olds want stories that help them escape, while over half seek content that include happy endings and makes them laugh. And while it’s natural for young kids to want happy content generally, 48% of this group feel the world is becoming more dangerous, so uplifting and reassuring content provides some relief to their already growing anxieties.
