College students are using Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs, but they’re keeping it quiet.

Mar 20 2025

College students are using Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs, but they’re keeping it quiet. According to a report published by The University of Michigan Medical School, the number of 12-25-year-olds getting GLP-1’s from U.S. pharmacies has increased by nearly 595% from 2020 to 2023. The drugs, which were originally designed to treat Type 2 diabetes, have quickly become a weight-loss trend on college campuses as skinny seems to be “back in style.” But most students aren’t exactly broadcasting their use. While the medications have skyrocketed in popularity, particularly among wealthier students who can afford the hefty ($900 without insurance) price tag, there’s still a stigma around admitting to taking them. On one hand, some students feel pressures to be on weight loss drugs, while others fear judgement if people find out they are. (Elle)
