Millennials aren’t going to have a “traditional” midlife crisis.

Nov 13 2024

Millennials aren’t going to have a “traditional” midlife crisis. The majority of Millennials say they don’t think they can afford a traditional midlife crisis (as YPulse also reported in June). However, some don’t even want to spend extravagantly to mark the next phase of life; Millennials are delaying major milestones like homeownership and parenthood due to high housing costs and inflation, which also limits impulsive spending on a “midlife crisis.” Some experts suggest it’s not about affordability, though—this turning point may just look different for Millennials compared to past gens. While purchases like sports cars or luxury vacations were typical markers of a midlife crisis, Millennials might opt for smaller discretionary purchases, or experiences over buys entirely. (The quarter-life crisis marathon has been quite the trend.) Ultimately, some Millennials say a midlife crisis is about the search for meaning and identity—not money at all. (Yahoo Finance)
