More teen girls are using marijuana than boys. A Pediatric Report journal study revealed that overall marijuana use among teens has decreased significantly over the past ten years, from 23% to roughly 16% using it. (Though YPulse data shows the number who have at least tried it is much higher.) But what’s shifted oppositely is that more girls now use it than boys; though both have dropped, girls’ use has dropped less. In 2021, nearly 18% of female teens reported using marijuana, compared to roughly 14% of male teens, while around 26% of teenage boys and 20% of girls did in 2011. Notably, high schoolers in 12th grade still exhibit the highest rates of marijuana use, which experts suggest may be due to increased access to the products as they progress through high school.
