Gen Z students are collecting Sonny Angels. The tiny naked cherubs come in mystery packaging, but the ranges include different hats on each that make them an addicting collectible—young buyers never know what they’ll get next. The toy has now gained significant attention on social media, with the hashtag #SonnyAngel on TikTok reaching 734M views. Japanese toy designer Toru Soeya specifically designed the figurines (back in 2005) in hopes of them being companions for “working women in their 20s,” as the brand tagline for the figure is “he may bring you more happiness.” YPulse’s brand new Kidulting trend report shows that young people are fully embracing toy purchases to spark joy, even when it’s a character or brand new to them, not just a nostalgic one from their childhood.
