Side hustles are being rebranded as “poly-employment” by Gen Z and Millennials. A recent study from Deputy found a significant percentage of workers are taking on multiple jobs at a time, but not just to make ends meet. Working several jobs can provide flexible hours, additional income, and diversification of income sources. However, for those who must take on multiple roles to earn a livable income, the benefits of flexibility are often limited. “Poly-employment” may be increasing partly because there is less stigma today associated with working more than one job—25% of Gen Z engage in poly-employment. YPulse data shows one third of 13-39-year-olds are earning money from multiple streams of income. (Fast Company)
