Duolingo has laid off approximately 10% of its contract workforce as it shifts its focus towards artificial intelligence. While no full-time employees were let go, the company is making way for AI-related changes in content generation like creating and checking content faster, improving courses, and providing AI-generated explanations for correct and incorrect answers. However, the company still emphasized the importance of human expertise in checking AI-generated work, as it still boasts millions of daily active users and paid subscribers. YPulse data shows more than three quarters of young people have used or are interested in using AI-driven educational tools—and Duolingo is already a top study platform young people use. (CNN)
