A 15-year-old is pushing congress to act against deepfake harassment. Francessca Mani became an advocate for artificial intelligence policy after she and over 30 girls at her high school fell victim to deepfake pornography. The incident prompted Mani to speak out and engage lawmakers, leading to support for legislation against nonconsensual creation and sharing of deepfake porn. She initiated the AI Help website to educate and protect AI victims, emphasizing the importance of self-education regarding the tech. After she and her mother met with several lawmakers, they’re advocating for updated school policies on cyber-harassment and prevention of such incidents. YPulse’s AI Unpacked trend report shows that just about three quarters of Gen Z say they are scared of / uncomfortable about deepfake videos (videos that make it look like a person is saying something they never said).
