YouTube is making its gaming debut. The platform is rolling out a “Playables” feature that gives Premium subscribers exclusive access to 37 mini-games. The games range from The Daily Crossword to Angry Birds Showdown and will be available to users until March 2024. YouTube is the latest company to join the list of non-gaming tech giants that have attempted to expand into gaming. These non-gaming tech companies either experience success on par with Meta’s Instant Games or eventually give up and axe game unit workers like Amazon and now ByteDance. YPulse’s Gaming report data shows that the vast majority of Gen Z and Millennials play video games in some capacity, so when if done right, embedding gaming features like Playables have the potential to attract young consumers.
