At its prime, the brand re-defined the beauty industry; the no-makeup-makeup look became the popular look and the brand succeeded in selling minimal products simply because of their vibe. But now, the brand has plateaued, as allegations of race-based discrimination follow it and Gen Z looks at beauty on social media differently than Millennials—however, whether it will bounce back as the “clean girl” look wanes in popularity is still to be seen.
