Interviews with 65 teens prove social media is neither all good nor all bad. While parents and mental health professionals tend to advocate for various degrees of social media bans for the sake of teens, the teens themselves see social media as something with potential for what they make of it. Many shared that their negative experiences on social media are actually what inform the positive way they use it now; screen time addictions led to more thoughtful use (which turned into community building) and addressing online bullying turned one 16-year-old into a mental health reform advocate. YPulse data shows that Gen Z describe different social media platforms in various ways, and something can be both entertaining and mean—so this gen is learning to navigate wisely. (The Cut)
