Uber will implement more shared rides to work towards company-wide sustainability. With the goal of reaching zero emissions by 2040, Uber is consistently taking steps towards a “green” future. In its latest effort, UberX Share (which are essentially shared rides) will become available in an additional 18 cities across the country so that people can travel together, reducing the carbon footprint separate rides create. Another element coming to Uber in Boston and Toronto is Carshare, which allows customers to borrow cars from private owners; the company aims for “turning private cars into shared vehicles [that] could lead to more livable neighborhoods around the world.” Uber users in Australia also have the option of riding in an Uber Green, either a hybrid or fully electric car. YPulse’s Auto report shows 73% of young consumers agree that “electric, chargeable cars are the future,” so even if they may not be able to afford their own yet, they’re certainly thinking about the future of sustainable transportation.
