Twitch is now scrapping the streamer ad display rule they were set to implement earlier this week. The streaming platform was set to introduce its new rule banning the use of “burned in” video, display, and audio ads that many streamers rely on to earn income. An overwhelming number of users spoke out against the new rule, which was never made known to ambassadors or streamers prior to being announced. One group of streamers wrote in a letter to the platform, “The once-unique and admirable vision of a creator-first platform now feels like a fading and distant dream.” Complaints were heard loud and clear by Twitch, who not only issued an apology, but also reversed their initial decision, to the relief of many streamers. YPulse’s recent Social Media Monitor report data shows that while Twitch might not be an entirely mainstream platform, nearly a fifth of Gen Z say they currently use it. (The Verge)
