A public library went viral for having baby cribs attached to computer desks. YPulse’s Millennial parents report data shows that 37% of parents stay home with their children during the week and 30% say family members watch their children during the week, which means many of these caregivers have to balance work and childcare. For those working caregivers who want to keep a close eye on their baby while they get some work done, the Henrico County Public Library in Virginia now features “Work Play Stations,” which include an enclosed crib / play area attached to the side of each desk. While the computer areas are still set up as cubicles, each one is individually closed off for privacy. They were designed by Barbara F. Weedman, the library’s director and a single working mother herself, who wanted to create spaces where caregivers can participate in public areas that typically aren’t designed with families in mind.
