Google Assistant is updating their parental controls and even adding a new age appropriate answering system. With the new controls, parents have the option to limit the content and features their kids have access to, including the ability to make phone calls, watch videos, and play music, news, or podcasts. The new tech will also be able to detect whether or not a child is speaking and “can switch to the Kids Dictionary to respond with easy-to-understand definitions better suited to younger people.” In order to make it even more kid-friendly, the Google Assistant is gaining four new voices that speak slightly slower and more expressively to “enhance the Assistant’s storytelling capabilities and aid in comprehension.” Concerns about smart devices being age-appropriate are real, in fact YPulse’s Tech / Device Usage report data shows that the number of Millennial parents who have given their kids a smart speaker went down from 15% in 2021 to now 10% for 2022.
